Fesch Willem de 6 Sonatas for Cello and Basso continuo, Op. 8 6 Sonat na wiolonczelę i basso continuo, op. 8 6 Sonatas for Cello and Basso continuo, Op. 8 6 Sonaten für Violoncello und Basso continuo, Op. 8
Willem de Fesch (1687 - 1761) to holenderski kompozytor urodzony w Alkmaar. Tworzył on w Holandii oraz Wielkiej Brytanii. Bas cyfrowany w partii klawesynu opracował Eberhard Wenzel. Although the exact birthday of Willem de Fesch is unknown, the date of his baptism in Alkmaar (Netherlands), 26 August 1687, indicates that he was contempotrary of Bach and Handel. De Fesch spent his youth in Liege, where he presumably received his first musical instruction as a choirboy at one of the city's churches. Around 1710 he settled in Amserdam and, in addition to his performing activities at various theatres, made a name for himself as a violin virtuoso. From 1725 he was kapelmeester at Antwerp Cathedral, but in 1730 he relinquished this poist after a series of quarrels with the chapter. Besiedes the oratorios, de Fesch wrote a number of masses and instruemtal concertos. His solo songs and chamber music were especially popular in his day. The present Cello Sonatas, which Fesch published together with six sonatas "for the violin, with a thoroug bass" in 1736 in London as his Opus 8, are a product of that late phase of his career. They are called sonatas "for two violoncellos" in the first edition, but in the fact they correspond to the solo sonata with thorougbass accompaniment which was so prelavent in the 18th century.
